New Agenda on Sunday. is out! Edition of 10th September 2017

Good morning everyone.

There are probably not many other countries where you would find people taking on a hurricane by "planning to fire bullets into the storm or use flame throwers and lasers to show their resistance".
It is reported that local sheriffs have urged "thousands" of people, (the "Tennessan" is reporting as many as 70,000 in Florida), not to shoot at the hurricane.
The mind boggles (shakes head in disbelief)

Amongst all the rhetoric and bellicose comments puring out of the United States and in particular Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, with her "begging for war" nonsense, there comes a modicum of common sense from Russian President Vladimir Putin who says that " Ramping up military hysteria in such conditions is senseless; it’s a dead end," adding, "further sanctions would be “useless and ineffective”, and of course he is right.
At least one of the "world leaders" has managed to retain a grip on reality, and has not been absorbed by the tsunami of hysterical ranting and screaming for even more useless sanctions and even pre emptive strikes against North Korea.
Putin concluded with the comment " There is no other way to solve the North Korean nuclear issue, save that of peaceful dialogue.”
The world must hope that his words will be heeded and understood in Wasington and London.

14 people, including an 11-month-old baby, were winched to safety by the coastguard helicopter after becoming trapped in Weymouth’s 174-ft Jurassic Skyline tower.
When this "attraction" was bulit and before it was open for public use, Eddie the Eagle tested escape facilities by abseiling to the ground via a hatch in the floor. Perhaps there was no rope aboard the gondola to allow at least some people off.
It seems to have been overlooked by the designers/builders/elf'n'safety people in the early days that young children, disabled or others who might be unable to do "the abseiling", would be aboard at some time.

The Untited Kingdom governmet led by a lame duck Prime Minister, is falling to pieces as each new day passes. The performance at Prime Minister Question's yesterday (6th September) was even worse than her prformance prior to the election of last June when her evasiveness, lack of attention to detail and her ineptitude for office were exposed for all to see and comment upon. Yesterday, amid another exhibition of evasion and clumsy distortions, she managed to slip up on poor working conditions, claiming that only a "small number"number of workers were on zero-hours contracts (despite numbers soaring since 2010), and in another faux pas dismissed higher pay for nurses and other public service sector workers as "spending on “this, that and the other". Callous, uncaring, inept and completely out of touch, Theresa May has outstayed her shelf life by many months and has become an embarrasment not only to her party, but to the country as well.

Meanwhile, back in Jersey Liberation, the £50 million flagship of Condor Ferries, was unable to berth in St Helier on Friday due to "high winds". The Condor official satement said, "This afternoon, as Condor Liberation approached Jersey, she encountered previously forecast inclement weather which combined with unexpectedly high winds, gusting around 38 knots. On arrival in Jersey waters, the wind speed and direction, coupled with high tides meant that the Captain decided it would be safest to divert to Guernsey". Passengers due to embark for a trip to Guernsey or the mainland (including friends of ours) were stranded at Queen Elizabeth terminal and had to be rebooked on alternative ships or dates. Since Liberation came into service back in 2015, I, and thousands of others, have been arguing that Liberation is the wrong ship for these waters and climate and has had "problems" with wind, swell and wave heights on numerous occasions. This together with severe "technical problems" on the ship has resulted in delays, cancellations and slow crossings many times over the past two years. Condor bought Austal 102 Trimaran "off the shelf" where it had been for a few years, because presumably nobody else wanted it. The arguments in favour of operating conventional ferries between Jersey and the mainland are compelling. However, it seems that Condor has significant influence with those Senators and officers within the States who are responsible for the ferry operations, and are thus able to continue to operate a poor service with the wrong type of ship mechanically unsound and at the mercy of sea conditions.

It is raining and it is windy but at least not as wet, windy and dangerous as it is in the Caribean at this time. We must be thankful that we do not have the same weather conditions as those unfortunate people living in the Bahamas, Cuba, Virgin Islands, Florida and all the other affected places. R I P for those already killed by the hurricanes.

Have a nice week

Northern Ireland and Brexit. The return of "The Troubles"

Northern Ireland: police attacked in another night of disturbances | Northern Ireland | The Guardian When the "Brexit" debate was still filling our newspapers and our television screens, readers may remember why I had changed my mind since voting to leave at the referendum vote. Apart from the economic arguments, which had become crystal clear after peeling away all the lies and misrepresentations trotted out by Bozo Boris and his "Get Brexit Done" conspirators, there was always the problem of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Would it be possible to have a border between the European Union and the United Kingdom where people, goods and services could pass freely between the two nations without customs restrictions, tariffs, duties and all the other formalities? Would it be possible to have one part of the United Kingdom treated differently from other parts of the United Kingdom, particularly when Scotland for example had voted overwhe

The Parliamentary Labour Party conspirators are hatching another coup.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/corbyn-labour-leadership-rebel-mps-a7202641.html Labour MPs plan for Corbyn victory  and plot how to confront an emboldened leader Even for the "Independent", the number and use of unnamed anonymous "sources" in this article is quite astonishing. However, amongst all the usual speculative delusion, there is one factor which causes concern to anyone who believes in the Labour Party, its principles and in he democratic process of the Labour movement. It is abundantly clear that elements within the Parliamentary Labour Party, are even now, planning another coup in the event that Jeremy Corbyn should emerge as winner in the current ballot. The failed coup of earlier this year, has now descended into a sham leadership election, because the conspirators still fail to accept the democratic decision of the Labour party membership and cling to

Plemont development or return to nature?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-jersey-  A date has been set for a public inquiry into plans for Plemont Headland. This exceptional location must be sold to the National trust for Jersey, and returned to nature. Any other outcome involving development of the site, can only demonstrate the extent to which greed and self interest have become endemic in Jersey.
