Iain Duncan Smith said that "he was stepping down because Osborne’s cuts were for self-imposed political reasons rather than in the national economic interest". He also said that “I am unable to watch passively while certain policies are enacted in order to meet the fiscal self-imposed restraints that I believe are more and more perceived as distinctly political rather than in the national economic interest,”.
In other words, Duncan-Smith has come to the view that austerity is not an economic necessity. Austerity is a political choice. It is strange indeed that the man who has over the past eight years, imposed cuts of over £30 billion on welfare spending, condemning thousands of people in this country to hardship and misery and even driving some to suicide. This "road to Damascus" conversion for IDS,,has the stench of hypocrisy and self interest from the person who so assiduously and publicly celebrated the cuts in the 2015 Budget.

Iain Duncan Smith, the hypocrite, liar and enthusiastic architect of policies which have destroyed many lives and adversely affected thousands has gone,
I for one am pleased to see his departure.If there is any justice in this world, he should today be followed by Osborne and Cameron
