The day after the euphoria of 2000 jobs being created at Nissan comes the news that GM plan to close their Ellesmere Port plant in 2014 with a threat to 2800 jobs and now 36 Remploy factories offering work for disabled people are to close, with the loss of more than 1,700 jobs. No matter what feeble mealy mouthed excuses the Minister for disabled people, Maria Miller, may trot out after being forced to make an emergency statement to the House of Commons, the fact remains that this is nothing more than another sacrificial lamb on the alter of Government Expenditure Cuts in order to "save" money, no matter what the real cost happens to be in terms of finance or human hardship. Justifying this latest blow to the people of this country as "diverting funding away from the loss-making business into job creation schemes for disabled people in the mainstream workplace". Is crass and patronising. In a time of high unemployment and the worst economic crisis since the 1930's, the prospects of finding alternative employment is bleak indeed.
